The Tidd Home is a fully MA-licensed and accredited Residential Care Facility and combines a long and distinguished history with a dedication to homelike and personalized care. Quite unlike many large, senior housing institutions, the not-for-profit Tidd Home relies on a combination of fees, bequests, donations, and invested funds that make it possible for us to offer an exceptional lifestyle—independence with security, privacy with companionship, comfort with affordability—for an affordable monthly fee of less than $3000.

The Tidd Home benefits enormously from active and deeply committed directors, trustees, volunteers and friends. The caring staff is at the core of what makes the Tidd Home such a special place.

Did you know that
Originally called The Home for Aged Women, we were started in 1886 when fifteen Woburn women met to establish a home for elderly women. The need for such a home was immediate and on October 21, 1886, Mrs. Anna B. Morse became our first guest. In 1887, the home was incorporated.

Initial quarters for the Home were on Mt. Pleasant Street. However, in 1889 Mr. and Mrs. William Tidd donated the Tidd Homestead to the Home for Aged Women. The building was dedicated in October of 1889 and has been in use ever since. In 1953, the name was changed to the Tidd Home to recognize the generosity of the Tidd family.

“Meals and Wheels”
Located in a section of Woburn once known as New Bridge Village, the original structure was completed in 1809 by Lt. Jonathan Tidd, a wealthy leather manufacturer.

Built as a hotel for stage-coach passengers making their way along Elm Street which was then the main route from Boston to Lowell and Nashua, New Hampshire, the hotel provided hearty meals and occasional overnight lodging to weary passengers.

Historic, yet Modern
Our residence has undergone many changes throughout its almost 200 year history, but the original structure, a three-story, brick-ended Federal-style building, has changed little over the years. Its beauty and dignity have been preserved though careful maintenance. The original structure was complemented with a two-story addition in 1970 where most of the bedrooms are located.

Living at its Best
In 2005-2006, a $1.5M renovation was undertaken to expand the residence and provide every resident with a start-of-the-art environment.
